About us
You come to Plåt & Mekano Romator if you have high demands on your sheet metal products or service and commitment from a subcontractor near Stockholm.

About us
Plåt & Mekano Romator is a family business in the mechanical engineering industry with a long history of innovation and craftsmanship. We have been working with subcontracting in sheet metal processing since 1975, when Plåt & Mekano in Täby was founded by Rune and Christina Mauritzon. Rune, who was a trained blacksmith, realised early on that demand was shifting towards sheet metal processing. After a few years, the business moved to Ledungsvägen in Täby, and in 1985 the current facility was built at Eldarvägen 2.
In 2010, Romator in Bandhagen was acquired, adding valuable experience and a modern machine park. Romator was moved to Täby and merged with Plåt & Mekano, which further strengthened the company's capacity and offering.

Our journey through time

1975
Plåt & Mekano i Täby AB was founded by Rune and Christina Mauritzon.

1985
First own premises at Eldarvägen 2 were built.

1990-1999
- Expansion in telecoms took place and we went from a dozen employees to 120 employees. Turnover increased significantly from SEK 10 million to SEK 200 million in 10 years. We also obtained ISO 9000 and 14000 certifications.
- The property at Eldarvägen 3 was built and completed in 1998.

2000
The Eldarvägen 1 property was inaugurated, with offices and a production hall.

2001
- We experienced our first steel bath in the form of the IT and telecoms crash, which hit hard, with successive downsizing, drastic reductions in staff and restructuring of operations.
- Acquisition of Simens Elemas sheet metal workshop.

2008-2009
The financial crisis and general downturn, from which we emerged thanks to having already lived through a more severe crisis in the form of the IT and telecoms crash.

2010
Acquisition of Romator in Bandhagen.

2011-2014
We trialled a larger industry collaboration by being part of the HSF Group, but later chose to go back to being independent

2012
The name was changed; we went from Plåt & Mekano in Täby to Plåt & Mekano Romator.

2012-2019
The company has been gradually strengthened with continuous investments in machinery such as three combi laser machines with loaders, robotic press brake, grinding and deburring machine and press brake with integrated tool changer, etc.

2017
One of our leading trio, Kjell Sundqvist, Tony Mauritzon's brother-in-law, passes away. The company is being restructured but continues to move forward.

2020
The coronavirus pandemic reduced demand and turnover by 40 %.
We designed and produced visors in our machines in 2020. Visors were in short supply at the beginning of the pandemic and we distributed some of them free of charge and then highly subsidised to all healthcare facilities that wanted them.

2021
2021 – Order intake normalizes and demand increases sharply, now material shortage is the main concern

2025
We are celebrating 50 years! Half a century of innovation, craftsmanship and strong customer relationships, something we look back on with great gratitude!
